Best expense tracker apps and what each is good at

Updated 28 October 2026

An expense tracker lives or dies by one thing: how easy it is to record a purchase the moment you make it. Here is how the main apps compare on that, plus currencies, cash and export.

What matters in an expense tracker

Fast manual tracking

Monefy is known for very quick manual entry and works without a bank login; you set exchange rates yourself. Spendee and Wallet offer manual tracking on free plans with several currencies, and bank sync on paid plans.

Bank-connected tracking

If your banks are supported, apps such as Rocket Money (US banks), Monarch Money and Copilot Money import transactions for you. The trade-off: coverage depends on your country, cash is still manual, and they work best in one currency.

Several currencies

Toshl and Lunch Money convert at market rates automatically; Wallet and Spendee also let you set your own rate. If what you exchange at differs from the market (exchange offices, cards, crypto), your own rate keeps totals honest.

Features were checked on each app’s official site and store listing in October 2026. Apps change — check the current details on their sites before you decide.

Tracking by chat: Fintrek

Fintrek turns recording into one message: in Telegram you say or type “taxi 12 euros” or “groceries 450 lira”, the bot shows what it understood, you confirm. It keeps every currency separately, converts at the rate you actually got, tracks debts with partial repayments, and sends a monthly report. Export gives you a filled-in Excel template plus a full copy.

Where Fintrek is not the right fit: it does not import from banks automatically (you record by voice or text, or import a statement file), it has no shared budget for couples yet, it needs Telegram, and after the free 30 days it is a paid subscription ($4.99 a month or $49 a year). Export of your data always stays free.

Questions

What is the easiest expense tracker app?

The one where recording takes seconds. For many people that is a fast manual app or tracking by chat or voice right after paying.

Can I track cash with an expense tracker app?

Yes, with manual entry. Bank-connected apps do not see cash, so you add it by hand.

Which expense tracker works with several currencies?

Wallet, Spendee, Toshl, Lunch Money, Monefy and Fintrek all handle several currencies; check whether you can use your own exchange rate.

Can I export my expenses to Excel?

Most apps offer some export; Fintrek sends a filled-in Excel budget template, a CSV and a full JSON copy, free at any time.
